Haverford College selected Perry Dean for the renovation of Magill Library to provide a center for campus life with and academic focus. The library is an intricately complex structure constructed over four eras (1864-1898, 1912, 1941, & 1967) and is listed on the Haverford Township Bureau for Historic Preservation. The overarching goals are to create a 21st century teaching and research center focused on gathering community that encourages collaboration and scholarly pursuit.
Primary project objectives:
Examine multiple points of entry, enhance clarity of arrival and create coherent wayfinding.
Optimize natural light and create a sense of place for particular programs.
Remove inefficient 1941 stack block and replace with new sensitive in scale and language to the historic context of the Heritage Spaces.
Promote the uniqueness of the world-renowned Quaker and Special Collections through enhanced dedicated research spaces, storage and display.
Respect the Arboretum designation of campus grounds, vegetation and pathways.
